Dr. Davis received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Vermont in 1985, and has been licensed as a psychologist in Maine for 39 years.  He specializes in psychological evaluations of children and adolescents with suspected problems in learning, development and behavioral and emotional regulation.  Specific interests include the assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disability, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and learning disorders, as well as evaluating anxiety disorders in children, disruptive behavior disorders such as oppositional defiant disorder, and the impact of stressful events and exposure to traumatic experiences on child development and adjustment.   Before he founded Maine Child Psychology in 2011, Dr. Davis was the psychology director at Maine General Medical Center, where he worked for 25 years.  Dr. Davis served as the chair of the Maine Board of Examiners of Psychologists from 2005 - 2018.  Personal interests include bicycling, hiking, and guitar.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

• Apply Legal and Ethical Frameworks: Navigate professional ethics (APA/NASP), privacy mandates (FERPA/HIPAA), and IDEA school-based assessment standards for early childhood evaluations.

• Analyze Early Development & Problems: Differentiate typical developmental variation from emerging developmental problems (e.g., ASD, GDD, ADHD) and evaluate how contextual and environmental factors impact presentation in children aged 3–5.

• Select & Interpret Assessment Procedures: Conduct multi-informant, domain-specific evaluations using parent interviews, observational checklists, standardized rating scales (BASC, ASEBA), and formal batteries (WPPSI, Bracken, VABS/ABAS).

• Translate Findings for Educational Use: Bridge the gap between DSM-5 clinical diagnostic criteria and IDEA educational eligibility to write actionable, function-focused assessment reports.
